PUNJAB POLICE TO TRAIN GIRLS FOR SECURITY DUTIES
Chandigarh, 9 October: Encouraged by successful deployment of women
by BSF on Indo-Pak Border, the Punjab Police has chalked out a special
programme to train girls for employment in security agencies, police
and para military forces.
According to an official spokesman of police department, Punjab
DGP Mr. P.S. Gill has issued guidelines to provide equitable opportunities
to women in the forces and provide them professional training to
make them employable in various security related services including
Police and Para-Military forces. The DGP felt that their was an
increasing demand for women recruits amongst the security agencies
for deploying them guards in various establishment including Malls,
Airports, Hospitals and Private educational Institutions and these
agencies were not finding enough trained employable women. The security
agencies themselves were reluctant to provide on job training to
the women and in the whole scenario women were the losers.
The spokesman said that DGP has asked Punjab Security Training
Institute (PSTI) operating from the complex of Police Recruitment
Training Centre, Jehan Khelan (Hoshiarpur) to immediately come out
with a course for women candidates. The spokesman said that to provide
proper infrastructure to women candidates, the newly built 120 bedded
hostel has been kept reserved for the new girls' batch.
The spokesman said that PSTI since its inception in January 2008
has been able to ensure placement to 1565 trainees in various security
related establishment. He said that thorough professional training
provided by this Institute equips the candidate to face the challenges
posed by new terror threats. He said that new infrastructure created
at the cost of 10 crore including multimedia hall, Indoor training
block, laboratories , hostel for boys and girls , out door training
block, guest house, administrative block, strive to provide professional
training to the trainees to enable them to face new challenge. On
completion of second phase of institute, it would be in positioned
to train 12000 youth every year, he added.
CM MOURNS SAD DEMISE OF NOTED LYRICIST AND FLIM SCRIPT WRITER INDERJIT
SINGH HASSANPURI
CHANDIGARH OCTOBER 08:
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today expressed
profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the noted poet,
singer, lyricist and film script writer Mr. Inderjit Singh Hassanpuri,
who died at local private hospital at Ludhiana this afternoon after
a brief illness. He was 80 and is survived by his wife, three sons
and a daughter.
In his condolence message, Mr. Badal recalled the outstanding contribution
of Mr. Hassanpuri towards the promotion of Punjabi language and
literature through out his life. He described him as an institution
who worked tirelessly for Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat. “In
the death of Mr. Hassanpuri a void has been created in the literary
circle which was difficult to be filled”, said Mr. Badal.
The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the
members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give
strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace
to the departed soul.
SUKHBIR CONDOLES THE DEATH OF NOTED LYRICIST INDERJIT HASSANPURI
Chandigarh, October 8: Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister
Punjab today expressed profound grief at the sad demise of noted
lyricist S.Inderjit Singh Hassanpuri, who died today after a brief
illness at Ludhiana.
Condoling his death the Deputy Chief Minister said that Mr. Hassanpuri
gave a new dimension to his songs as earthiness of Punjabi life
mirrored in them vividly. Mr. Badal said that he would be remembered
by all of us for his refined sensibility, subtle perceptions, uncanny
instinct for right word and unfailing ear for nuances and modulations.
Mr. Badal expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family
in this critical hour and prayed to God to give peace to the departed
soul and strength to them to bear this irreparable loss.
EDUCATION MINISTER UPINDERJIT KAUR CONDOLES
THE DEATH OF INDERJIT SINGH HASANPURI
Chandigarh, October 9: The Education and Languages Minister Punjab,
Dr. Upinderjit Kaur today expressed her deep sense of shock and
sorrow over the sad demise of noted producer, lyricist and prolific
writer Mr. Inderjit Singh Hasanpuri.
In a condolence message Dr. Upinderjit Kaur condoled that in the
death of Mr. Hasanpuri Singh, Punjab as well as literary world has
lost a distinguished writer and film producer, whose writings and
films gave it a new identity and a social purpose. She described
Mr. Hasanpuri as a multi-faceted personality and a torchbearer of
writing with a constructive approach and vision, who has left an
elegant mark on the world around him. He was indeed a great inspiring
writer and lyricist with good heart, she said.”
She further added that Mr. Hasanpuri had contributed a lot to the
Punjabi literature with his valuable books and writings. He had
produced and written scripts of Punjabi movies like Teri Meri Ik
Jindari, Daaj, Sukhi Parivaar and Hindi film Dahej. He had also
written songs for many films including Man Jeete Jag Jeet, Dukh
Bhanjan Tera Naam and Long Da Lishkara. The demise of this noted
writer was an irreparable loss to the entire country. He would be
ever remembered by one and all in recognising his immense talents
as a prolific writer, humanist, and above all as an original thinker
and a fine human being, she said.”
The Education Minister expressed heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved
family and prayed to the Almighty to give strength and courage to

8.07 LAKH TONNES PADDY PROCURED IN PUNJAB
Chandigarh, October 8: Government agencies and private millers
procured more than 8.07 lakh tonnes of Paddy till last evening
Out of total procurement of 807467 tonnes of paddy in all the
procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 762687
tonnes of paddy (94.5%) till date whereas private traders procured
44780 tonnes (5.5%) of paddy. Till October 7, PUNGRAIN had procured
225600 tonnes (29.6%) whereas MARKFED procured 153938 tonnes (20.2%).
PUNSUP procured 163010 tonnes (21.4%) , PSWC procured 86428 tonnes
(11.3%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 64778 tonnes (8.5 %) of
paddy.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 68933
tonnes (9.0%).
The spokesman added that District Muktsar with 160691 tonnes of
procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district
Faridkot a 109105 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and District
Tarn Taran with 104546 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
The State Government has set up 1600 procurement centres and activated
its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, the spokesman
added.
UNITED NATION's FLAG WILL BE FLOWN WITH NATIONAL FLAG
ON UNITED NATION DAY

The Punjab Government has issued instructions to display of the
United Nation's flag on the United Nation's Day, which would be
observed on October 24, 2009.
Disclosing this here today the a spokesman of the Punjab Government
said that the United Nation's flag would be flown along with the
Indian National Flag on all buildings on which the National flag
was regularly flown in the state on the United Nation's Day.
As per the instructions, the United Nation's flag will however
not be flown on the buildings of Punjab Raj Bhawan, Punjab Vidhan
Sabha and Punjab & Haryana High Court but it may be flown on
buildings of district headquarters.
