AKALI DAL WITH LIKEMINDED PARTIES TO RAISE 84' RIOTS ISSUE IN
PARLIAMENT
Chandigarh, November 11, 2009
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, President Shiromani Akali Dal and Punjab
Deputy Chief Minister Punjab today said that Shiromani Akali Dal
along with all likeminded parties would raise the issue of Congress's
deliberate attempts to scuttle the trial of Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish
Tytler on flimsy grounds in winter session of Parliament and force
the government to expedite trial in this 25 years old case.
In a statement issued here, Mr. Badal said that it was matter
of great shame for the largest democracy of the World that thousands
of Sikh families were crying for justice since last 25 years and
Congress party was out to foil any attempt of fair justice to
the victims. “The most shocking part is that the government
and CBI are hand in glove in perpetrating this mockery of justice
on the country. The deliberate delay by CBI in filing charge sheets
against Sajjan Kumar in four cases that were registered in 2005,
on the basis of the recommendation, were part of this conspiracy
to save accused”, commented Mr. Badal.
Mr. Badal expressed surprise that the CBI had deliberately sought
permission of the Government to prosecute Sajjan Kumar even while
the law was categorical that in cases of murder under Section
302 of IPC, no government sanction was required. He said that
Sajjan Kumar faces the gravest charges of committing mass murders.
“The CBI’s action is seeking government permission
is a deliberate tactic to delay the delivery of justice and to
put hurdles in the path of a speedy and fair trial. This is part
of a wider conspiracy of the Congress led government to further
delay and scuttle the execution of justice,” commented Mr.
Badal.
Mr. Badal said that his party would provide complete legal support
to the families of the victims and to ensure that culprits including
Sajjan and Tytler get exemplary punishment. Mr. Badal said that
they would force the Parliament to issue directions to CBI to
file charge sheet against Sajjan Kumar on which it was sitting
since 2005.
Questioning the clean chit given by CBI to Jagdish Tytler, Mr.
Badal said that they would also request the relevant court not
to agree to the plea of CBI in this regard and issue orders for
expediting trial against Jagdish Tytler. Mr. Badal said that Congress
Party as a whole was using all means to delay the trial but Shiromani
Akali Dal was committed to take this trial to its logical end.
Mr. Badal said that the Shiromani Akali Dal had also sought
the intervention of National Human Rights Commission and asked
it to recommend to the government to ask CBI to file the charge
sheet against Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and others accused
of history’s worst ever carnage.
