IRRIGATION PROGRAMME FOR RABI SEASON ANNOUNCED

The Irrigation Department, Punjab has announced
the Rotational irrigation Programme for the Rabi Season through
Canal water from 29 March to 5 April 2009. The channels of Sirhind
Canal System would run on priority basis from Patiala feeder,
Abohar Branch Sidhwan Branch, Bathinda Branch and Bist Doab Canal
respectively.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the
Irrigation department said that direct distributaries of Bhakra
Main Line, in Group 'B' being in the first preference would run
to their indent. Balance water supplies would be utilised in Ghaggar
link and its off taking channels that is Ghaggar Branch and Patiala
Minor in Group 'A' respectively.
The spokesman further said that the Punjab channels
off taking from Harika and Ferozepur Head Works & Branches
i.e. all the direct distributaries of Sirhind Feeder in-group
"B" being in the first preference would run to their
indent. Balance water supplies would be utilised in Abohar Branch
off taking from Sirhind Feeder and its distributaries/minors in-group
"A".
The spokesman also said that the channels off taking
from upper Bari Doab Canal i.e. Sabraon Branch with its distributaries
being in first Preference would run to their indent. Balance Surplus
water available would be utilised in, Kasur Branch Lower, Main
Branch Lower and Lahore Branch with its distributaries.
MAJOR ISI SPONSORED SPY RING BUSTED IN PUNJAB-
FOUR SPIES ARRESTED –SENSITIVE DEFENCE DOCUMENTS RECOVERED

The Punjab Police today achieved a major success,
busting the ISI – sponsored espionage ring with the arrest
of four persons.
According to an official spokesman in a coordinated
operation carried out jointly by the Special Narcotics Cell, Amritsar
and the Counter Intelligence Units of Jalandhar, Ferozepur and
Patiala, the joint party today arrested in Faridkot four spies
namely Naib Singh S/o Bachitar Singh, Baldev Singh S/o Saudagar
Singh, Sukhdev Singh @ Bhola S/o Ajaib Singh and Randhir Singh
@ Master S/o Joginder Singh all residents of different villages
of Faridkot district.
He said that sensitive documents related to important
Military installations, photographs, charts, movements of military
units, diaries containing Pakistan telephone numbers and mobile
phones and fake currency worth Rs. 20,000 have been received from
the possession of the arrested persons. The Punjab Police has
registered an FIR U/s 489-A/B/C & 3 Official Secret Act in
this connection at Police State Special Narcotics Cell, Amritsar.
He added that the preliminary investigation of arrested persons
has revealed that a well organized and directly controlled ISI
network was involved in espionage. It may be added that the two
of the members of the spy ring, Naib Singh and Baldev Singh have
terrorist background and several cases under TADA were registered
against them.
It was revealed in the preliminary investigations
that Naib Singh visited Pakistan from times during 2007-08 while
Sukhdev Singh went twice as part of religious jathas where they
were approached and cultivated by ISI officials. After that these
persons were in regular touch with Pakistan Intelligence Officers
(PIOs) through mobile telephones and internet and were being provided
funds that were routed through Dubai by money transfers.
The Punjab Police is intensively conducting further investigations
in the matter.
