BADAL ORDERS TO HIKE SALARY OF COMPUTER
TEACHERS FROM RS.7000 TO RS.10000 PM
CHANDIGARH JANUARY 15:
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today ordered
to hike the salary of Computer teachers from Rs.7000 to Rs.10000
per month with immediate effect.
A decision to this effect was taken by Mr. Badal during a meeting
with the deputation of Punjab State Computer Teacher Union led
by its President Gurvinder Singh. This decision would benefit
7172 computer teachers through out the state. Mr. Badal asked
the members of the deputation to inspire their fellow teachers
to teach the students with dedication and sincerity because they
were the nation builders.
It may be recalled that computer education as a subject has
been introduced from class 6th to 12th in 4965 government schools.
The state education department has decided to conduct the examination
of computer subject of class 8th, 10th and 12th by the Punjab
School Education Board from the academic session 2009-10.
The meeting was attended by Education Minister Mrs. Upinderjit
Kaur, Chief Secretary RI Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister
DS Guru, Principal Secretary Finance SC Aggarwal, Secretary School

PUNJAB ORDERS MAGISTERIAL INQUIRY INTO
INCIDENT OF RAID OF NAIB TEHSILDAR'S OFFICE
CHANDIGARH JANUARY 15:
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today ordered
a magisterial inquiry to look into the ground realities of the
raid conducted by the vigilance department on the office of Naib
Tehsildar Mullanpur Dakha in Ludhiana district last week. Mr.
Badal directed to submit a detailed report within a month.
An assurance to this effect was given by Mr. Badal to the deputation
of the Punjab Association of Tehsildars and District Revenue Officers
led by its President Ram Singh called on him this evening. The
Chief Minister also directed the state Chief Secretary to ask
the vigilance department to conduct such raids on Revenue offices
if necessary in future as per the prescribed guidelines laid down
by the state Revenue Department.
Referring to another demand of the revenue officers, Mr. Badal
asked the Chief Secretary to examine their demand to allow promotions
in their cadre based on the principle of seniority cum merit as
per the same procedure adopted in the case of elevation of PCS
(EB) to IAS by UPSC instead of nomination. Prominent amongst others
who were present in the meeting included Chief Secretary RI Singh,
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister DS Guru, Financial Commissioner
Revenue Mrs.Romila Dubey, Commissioner Patiala Division Jasbir
Singh Bir and OSD to Chief Minister NS Sangha

Mansa, 15 January
"Party will contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections on development
issue", says Shiromani Akali Dal president, MP, Sukhbir Singh
Badal. He was addressing media persons after laying foundation
stone of the project of restoring the capacity of Ghaggar branch
canal and its distributaries at village Kishangarh of the district.
He said that state is developing at a fast pace in every field,
may it be the field of agriculture, industry, trade, power production
and distribution, education, heath services etc. He said that
an amount of Rs. 2000 Crore will be invested on settingup of central
university in Bathinda.
"Project of modifying century old canal system had been
started by SAD-BJP government at an investment of Rs.3268 crore
to enhance the intake capacity of canals by 40 percent, of which
Rs.700 crore had been invested and 102 new distributaries had
been approved to ensure better irrigation facilities to the farmers",
says Mr. Badal. He said that the 3200 Crore project of repairing
and developing canal irrigation system in the state will be completed
in two years term as Rs. 1200 Crore work is in progress at fast
pace. "Canal system in state was more than a century old
and negligence in repairing it results into lack of irrigation
capacity. Now, with its revival its capacity will be increased",
says Mr. Badal.
SAD president and star campaigner Mr. Badal addressing a public
rally after laying foundation stones of RO systems in village
Datewas and Gobindpura of the district Mansa said that the other
major aim of the SAD-BJP government is to provide safe drinking
water to every native of the state so that he or she can live
healthy. To obtain this objective R.O. system would be installed
in all the villages of the state by the end of next financial
year. He said that these RO systems were costing Rs. 10 Lack each
and will provide quality drinking water at the cost 10 paisa per
litre. He said that diseases like cancer, bone problems, kidney
failure etc in the area were outcome of contaminated ground water.
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that Mr. Badal said that party will
contest coming Lok Sabha elections on development issue. He said
that government is increasing distribution capacity besides boosting
the power production. Mr Badal told that 30 power grids were will
be completed till March 2009. He said that Rs. 250 Crore had been
invested till December in this project and Rs 200 crore will be
invested in this financial year. He informed that construction
work on 70 power grids is in progress.Mr. Badal said that new
power grids will help in reducing burden from previous ones and
thus help in helps in reducing power loss. He said that at present
total power loss in state is 3.5 percent and to reduce it all
the 33KV power grids of the state will be upgraded to 66KV in
a year. He said that proper distribution will not only help in
providing new tube well connections to farmers but also provide
sufficient power to install new industries in cities and towns.
During today's visit Mr. Badal initiated the development work
of increasing the capacity of Sunam distributary system by 20
percent and project of restoring the capacity of Ghaggar branch
canal and its distributaries. These projects will cost Rs 4.17
Crore and 17.06 Crore respectively. With the restoration of capacity
of Ghaggar branch canal and its distributaries 110 villages of
Mansa, 258 villages of Sangrur and 53 villages of Patiala district
will be benefited. Whereas, 20 percent increase in Sunam Distributory
will benefit 20 villages of Budlada and Sunam constituency.
3 CHAIRMEN AND 12 VICE CHAIRMEN NOMINATED IN 13 MARKET COMMITTEES
5 MEMBERS DISTRICT PLANNING COMMITTEE AMRITSAR NOMINATED

The Punjab Government today nominated three Chairmen and twelve
Vice Chairmen in 13 Market Committees besides five members of
district Planning Committee Amritsar.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab government
said that these Chairmen and Vice Chairmen had been nominated
under Sub Section (1) of Section 16 of Punjab Agricultural Produce
Markets Act, 1961. The respective notifications relating to these
nominations had been issued by the State Agriculture department.
According to these Notifications, Mr. Hardev Singh and Mr. Darshan
Singh have been nominated as Chairman and Vice Chairman of Market
Committee Attari in Amritsar district. Mr. Gurjit Singh and Mr.Sarbjit
Singh Mangat have been nominated as Chairman and Vice Chairman
of Market Committee Doraha in Ludhiana district and Mr. Ashok
Jerath as Chairman of Market Committee Fazilka in Ferozepur district.
Likewise Mr. Kudeep Madan, Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Mr. Raman Kumar,
Mr. Sanjiv Kumar, Mr. Mohinder Kumar and Mr. Inderjit Gupta have
been nominated as Vice Chairmen of Khamano in Fatehgarh Sahib
district, Kurali in Mohali district, Samrala in Ludhiana district,
Sadik in Faridkot district, Mour and Bhucho in Bathinda district
respectively.
Mr. Chamkaur Singh Brar, Mr. Satpal Singh, Mr. Rakesh Kumar Mahajan
and Mr. Surinder Kumar have been nominated as Vice Chairmen of
Market Committees of Kotakpura in Faridkot district, Rampura Phul,
Rama Mandi and Sangat in Bathinda district respectively.
Meanwhile the Punjab government had nominated Mr. Anwar Masih,
Master Preet Singh Barlash, Mr. Bawa Singh Gumaanpura, Mr. Sardul
Singh Sham and Mr. Manmohan Singh Verka as members of the District
Planning Committee Amritsar.
CANADIAN IMMIGRATION MINISTER SEEKS PUNJAB'S COOPERATION TO CHECK
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
CHANDIGARH JANUARY 15:
A high powered delegation led by Canadian Minister for Citizenship,
Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney today called on
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and sought cooperation
from the Punjab government to address the issues of fraudulent
visa cases that had created a major problem for both Canadian
as well as Indian Government.
Expressing concern over the issue, Mr. Badal assured the delegation
that Punjab Government would extent its fulsome support and cooperation
to evolve a permanent solution to curb this illegal practice.
The Chief Minister directed the State Chief Secretary to coordinate
with the visiting delegation and chalk out detailed modalities
to resolve this issue in a time bound manner. Mr. Badal was apprised
in the meeting that few owners of marriage palaces were involved
in arranging fake marriages in connivance with travel agents/immigration
consultants to provide photographs of marriage in support of proof
for the purpose of Canadian visa to illegal persons.
Taking part in the deliberations, Mr. Badal assured the visiting
Canadian Minister that State Government would take stringent action
against the erring travel agents involved in the exploitation
of women in getting them married with the persons intended to
seek Canadian Visa which ultimately result in broken marriages.
The other areas of interest taken up by the delegation included
diversification of agriculture, trade, education besides initiating
programmes to impart skill development training through technology
transfer to enable our youth to be gainfully employed in Canada.
Mr. Jason Kenney informed that Canadian Government was also keen
to seek help from the Punjab Government for setting up high schools
with certification from educational institutions of British Colombia
in Punjab. He also informed that the agriculture was another thrust
areas in which his government was also keen to work together with
Punjab for mutual benefits as Punjab had a proven track of agrarian
economy in India. He also offered to begin joint study/research
programmes to be undertaken in this regard to enhance the productivity
of agricultural crops both qualitatively and quantitatively besides
initiating steps towards diversification of agriculture which
was the need of the hour.
Assuring whole hearted support in the areas of bilateral interests
on behalf of the Punjab government, the Chief Minister offered
to provide the services of highly skilled technically youth to
Canada as per their requirements after all the requisite security
and immigration clearances. He said our vibrant young farmers
had a knack of farming in their blood as heritage profession and
had already done marvels in our state and still they had unbounded
abilities and capabilities to do wonders, which could be replicated
in Canada too.
The other members of delegation included Param Gill, Tim Uppal
and Ed Fast (all MPs) and Director Alyhtihan Velshi. The meeting
was also attended by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister
Mr. D.S. Guru and Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister
Mr. K.J.S. Cheema.
