CONGRESS DISILLUSIONED PEOPLE FOR ITS VESTED INTERESTS--BADAL
Mahilpur (Hoshiarpur); Feb. 17, 2009
Bashing at the Congress for its misrule of 45 years at Centre
and in the states since independence, Punjab Chief Minister Mr.
Parkash Singh Badal today said that it had completely disillusioned
and disappointed all sections of the society with a sole objective
to pursue its vested political agenda thereby blatantly ignoring
the core issues like unemployment, illiteracy, poverty and development.
Addressing a development rally at village Khera
in Mahilpur Assembly constituency, Mr. Badal said that general
elections were round the corner and our SAD-BJP alliance party
would have a direct contest with our arch rival Congress and he
appealed the people to take a conscious decision while casting
their franchise. He cautioned the people that they must give due
consideration to the credentials of the party and the candidate.
He further said that as far as SAD-BJP was concerned it was undoubtedly
a pro people party which was committed for the development of
the state and the welfare of all sections of the society, while
Congress was insensitive to the problems of the people and least
bothered about the development of the state.
The Chief Minister urged the people that SAD-BJP
alliance nominee, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema from Sri Anandpur Sahib
parliamentary Constituency was the most eligible and competent
candidate to contest the Lok Sabha election from this Kandi belt
who was fully seized of the problems faced by the people. He hoped
that Dr. Cheema after being elected as Member Parliament could
forcefully lead the case of the Kandi area and sought adequate
funds for its development from the Centre. He said that it was
on the record that the Congress always meted out a step-motherly
treatment even towards the genuine demands of the state be it
related with the field of agriculture, industry, trade & commerce
and even concerning the common man. He held the Congress at Centre
responsible for the total decay of agriculture and flight of industry
from Punjab to the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu
& Kashmir and Uttra Khand for its anti Punjab policies.
Mr. Badal vehemently pleaded the case for change
of guard at Centre thereby throwing the Congress led UPA government
out of power in order to install the BJP led NDA government to
ensure all round development in state. He said the people had
lot of expectations from the UPA government but their hopes were
dashed to the ground. He said whenever an era of development and
prosperity came in Punjab it was always during the régime
of NDA at the helm of affairs. He cited the examples of the prestigious
Bathinda refinery, Amritsar International Airport, Ranjit Sagar
Dam and Shahpur Kandi Project which were awarded to the state
by the NDA government under the stewardship of former Prime Minister
Attal Behari Vajpayee.
On the occasion the Chief Minister handed over
a cheque of Rs. 1 crore to the Municiple Committee Mahilpur and
cheques worth Rs. 3.72 core for the execution of development works
in various village of Mahilpur constituency. He also announced
that the existing football academy at Mahilpur would be upgraded
of International standard in view of Mahilpur's significant contribution
in producing eminent football players of National and International
repute.
Earlier the Chief Minister laid a foundation stone
of the up gradation of 48 KM Garhshankar-Adampur Road at Kot Fatuhi
via Panshata and Mehatiana along with Doab Canal at a cost of
Rs. 25 crore.
In his address SAD-BJP nominee from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat
Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema said that the SAD-BJP alliance was the
votary of the rights of the people of Punjab and was committed
to ensure overall growth and development of the state. He said
if NDA is voted to power in Centre then Punjab would be immensely
benefited because it was always easier to get projects and funds
sanctioned for the development of the state from the government
of its allies unlike the UPA. He urged the people to extend their
whole hearted co-operation and support to the SAD-BJP
Candidate for Lok Sabha polls so that Congress
could be routed out from the state as well as the Centre.
Speaking on the occasion MLA Mahilpur Mr. Sohan Singh Thandel
highlighted the demands of the Kandi Area and sought a special
comprehensive package for the development of this backward region.
He assured Mr. Badal that they would leave no stone unturned to
ensure the victory of Dr. Cheema from Sri Anandpur Sahib Constituency.
