FREE ENTRY FOR RURAL STUDENTS IN PUSHPA GUJRAL SCIENCE CITY

Chandigarh January 24:

The Punjab Government has decided to make a budgetary provision of Rs. 1.25 crores to enable free entry to the students of the rural government schools in the State to infuse a scientific temper amongst them.

A decision to this effect was taken by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal while presiding over a high level meeting to discuss the ways and means to popularize the prestigious Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) which was a pioneer institute of its kind to cater the quest for Science acumen amongst the science lovers. Mr. Badal directed the Science & Technology Department to formulate an action plan for advertising this unique venture in such a manner to elicit maximum participation of the youth. It may be recalled at present Rs.100 per person is being charged as an entry fee.

It was informed in the meeting that to attract the visitors in the Science City a new amusement park over 4 acres apart from the world's largest Dinosaur park was being developed in the vicinity of the Science City. Presently 2.75 lakh people visit this place every year which would be increased manifold after the development of the site.

To further inculcate the scientific fervour amongst the young generation, Mr. Badal directed the officers to prepare a detailed report for the setting up of Science Park in every district.

Regarding the development of approach roads from Jalandhar to the Science City Mr.Badal said that a ring road for Jalandhar had already been planed which would join Science City through an extension of a new road of about 1 Km length in future. Likewise there was also a plan to widen the existing Jalandhar-Kapurthala road up to 60 feet. Mr. Badal also directed the PIDB to include Railway over bridge Project on Jalandhar-Kapurthala road in its projects under execution.

Science & Technology and Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia said that this state-of-the-art Science City would prove to be a milestone in boosting the Tourism potential enormously besides transforming the state's traditional agrarian economy into a high-tech Industrialized economy.

PUNJAB GOVERNMENT TO SPEND RS.30 CRORE ON UPGRADATION
OF VETERINARY HOSPITAL AND POLY CLINICS


Chandigarh January 24:

Punjab Government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to restructure the complete network of Veterinary Hospital and Poly Clinics in the State.

A decision to this effect was taken in a high level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal.

It was informed in the meeting that under this prestigious project 5 new poly clinics and 20 hospitals would be constructed besides upgrading 10 existing polyclinics and 850 hospitals.

Expressing deep concern over the nuisance caused by the stray cattle, Mr. Badal directed all the Deputy Commissioner in the State to establish at least one Gau-shala in their respective districts to tackle this menace efficiently. He pointed out that a proposal of Rs.5 crore had already been sent to Government of India for its approval. He said that he would take up this issue with the concerned Ministry during his next visit to New Delhi to fetch a grant of Rs.25 lakh each for a new Gaou-shala under GOI Scheme.

Animal Husbandry & Fisheries and Diary Development Minister Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike informed in the meeting that the state government had planned for the sterilization of about 2.75 lakh stray dogs in the state that would cost Rs.440 per operation. He further informed that initially this project would be launched from the Ludhiana City on pilot basis and would cover the entire state in a phased manner.

On the pursuance of the Government of Punjab, the Government of India has accorded Star Status to Khlasa College, Amritsar – one of India's most prestigious educational institutions.

Stating this here today, Science, Technology and Public Relations Minister, Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia said that the college would be provided assistance by the Department of Science & technology, Government of India for upgrading its infrastructure for furthering science education. Welcoming this initiative, he said that the step would go a long way in popularizing science education amongst the students in general and those hailing from the border belt in particular.

EMPOWRED COMMITTEE APPROVES MEGA PROJECTS OF RS.749.20 CRORE

CHANDIGARH JANUARY 24:

In a significant move to boost investors' sentiments in the state, the Punjab Government's Empowered Committee on mega projects under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today cleared Industrial and Agro projects worth Rs.749.20 crore.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the Punjab Government said that industrial projects worth Rs.499 crore comprising three manufacturing units and one industrial park besides three agro projects to the tune of Rs.250.20 crore were approved in today's meeting of Empowered committee on mega projects. It may be recalled earlier, 9 pending projects worth Rs.1345 crore were approved in the Empowered Committee's meeting on November 6, 2007.

The projects cleared today included M/s Kaur Sain Spinners Limited, Ludhiana ( Rs.120 crore), M/s Jindal Cotex Limited, Ludhiana (Rs.138 crore), M/s InBeu India International (P) Limited, Pathankot (Rs.65 crore), M/s Malhotra Land Developers & Colonizers Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana (Rs.176 crore), M/s Khet-Se Agriproduce India Private Limited ( Rs.90 crore), M/s Sunstar Overseas Limited, Amritsar (Rs.44.20 crore) and M/s SKOL Breweries Ltd. (Rs.116 crore).

It may be recalled M/s SKOL Breweries is a subsidiary of SAB Miller India which is a part of SAB Miller Plc, a $20 Billion global brewing giant with a presence in over 60 countries, employing over 40, 000 employees and selling over 17 billion litres of beer with 150 Beer Brands worldwide. The company started Indian operations in 2000 and over a period of over 7 years an investment of over Rs. 600 crores with 10 Breweries in 9 Indian States has been made. SKOL now intends to build up a Greenfield modern brewery at Patiala or Ludhiana having an initial capacity of 150,000 HL per annum expandable to 500,000 HL per annum, over a period of 3 years.

During an interaction with the prospective investors, Mr. Badal urged them to make more investments in the state and assured fulsome support and cooperation to them for setting up their ventures. He also asked the officers to be liberal while considering their proposals and guide them accordingly to cut short the delay within the laid down policy & procedure for the mega project.
