US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has expressed solidarity and said, “Our hearts go out to our Indian brothers and sisters in Kerala who have been affected by the worst monsoon and flooding in over 100 years.

We send special prayers to those who have lost a loved one and to all the families of the region as they begin to rebuild,” the Indian-origin diplomat said in a message tweeted by the US Mission to the UN.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said, “The United Nations is “saddened” by the loss of life, destruction and displacement caused by severe floods in Kerala and is following the situation very closely.”

The chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that at least 324 lives have been lost so far and The state is “facing the worst floods in 100 years. More than 300,000 people have been left homeless
Kerala has been facing its worst flooding in a century, with nearly 400 people being killed. The state has suffered a loss of Rs. 20,000 crore due to the deluge.

On Aug 13 2018, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had sought Rs 1,120 crore as immediate relief in a petition.

  • The central government announced an immediate relief of Rs. 100 crore for Kerala.
  • Aug 21, 2018: On Saturday, PM Narendra Modi announced an additional grant of Rs 500 crore to Kerala, after holding a high-level meeting with Kerala CM Vijayan and conducted an aerial survey of the flood-ravaged state.
STATE GOV. DONATED:

Maharashtra (Rs 20 crore), Gujarat (Rs 10 crore), Punjab (Rs 10 crore), Telangana (Rs 25 crore), Bihar (Rs 10 crore), Himachal Pradesh (Rs 5 crore), Uttarakhand (Rs 5 crore), Chattisgarh (Rs 3 crore) Madhya Pradesh (Rs 10 crore), Karnataka (Rs 10 crore), West Bengal (Rs 10 crore), Manipur (Rs 2 crore) and Tripura (Rs 1 crore), Delhi Chief Minister announced Rs 10 crore, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also announced an aid of Rs 10 crore and similarly, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announced an aid of additional Rs 5 crore to the earlier sanctioned Rs 5 crore along with 245 fire personnel with boats. Tamil Nadu (Rs 10 crore) and Andhra Pradesh (Rs 10 crore), Puducherry (Rs 1 crore), Jharkhand (Rs 5 crore), announced as part of donation.

PRIVATE:
  • Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) has announced that her organisation will donate Rs 10 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) has donated Rs 2 crore for the Kerala flood victims
  • Television giant, Star India donated Rs 2 crore whereas south regional television Sun TV network, made a donation of Rs 1 crore

  • Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, an NRI billionaire and the Chairman of Abu Dhabi-headquartered VPS Healthcare, has decided to donate Rs 50 crore for the relief of Kerala’s flood victims. VPS is a leading player in the region’s healthcare sector, with 22 hospitals and 125 medical centres across the Middle East, India and Europe.
  • Dubai-based NRI billionaire and philanthropist, Yusuff Ali is the chairman and managing director of LuLu Group, an Abu Dhabi-headquartered hypermarket chain, donated Rs 9.5 crore for relief and rehabilitation of Kerala flood victims.
  • The UAE government has extended $100 million as financial assistance to rebuild the flood-ravaged Indian state of Kerala.

The rains and landslides during India's ongoing monsoon season have forced over 30,000 people to take shelter in rescue camps. people Kerala are struggling to get food and water to many thousands of people stranded in their homes by high waters.
