According to the PTI, Social activist Sandeep Pandey has taken a bold stand by returning his PhD degree to the University of California (UC), Berkeley, in protest against the United States' stance on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Earlier this year, Pandey made headlines when he announced his decision to relinquish the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay award, conferred upon him in 2002, as a form of protest against the US's role in the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Additionally, Pandey has returned his dual MSc degrees to Syracuse University, further emphasizing his principled stance on the matter.

In the letters addressed to these universities, shared with PTI, Pandey expressed his strong condemnation of the US's involvement in the Israel-Palestine conflict. He emphasized that the US had the opportunity to act as a mediator to resolve the conflict and achieve a permanent solution by advocating for the recognition of Palestine as an independent nation. However, Pandey lamented that instead of promoting peace, the US has blindly supported Israel's military actions, leading to the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, including children. He questioned the US's commitment to democracy and human rights in light of its actions.

Sandeep Pandey has formally requested that his name be removed from all records at the University of California, Berkeley, and has made a similar appeal to Syracuse University, where he obtained his dual MSc degrees.

Reports indicate that the ongoing Israeli invasion has resulted in the deaths of over 32,000 individuals in Gaza.

In a significant development, the UN Security Council passed a resolution on Monday, urging for a cease-fire. Notably, the US abstained from vetoing the measure, causing displeasure in Israel and escalating tensions between the two longstanding allies.

The resolution emphasizes the release of all hostages in Gaza but does not make it a prerequisite for the cease-fire.
