There is no dearth of jewellery marts in Chennai. No wonder the city got the sobriquet Eldorado, especially among the jewellery merchants. It goes without saying that even NRIs want to set up their shops in Chennai. Tomorrow, there would be one more jewellery mart in the city. An NRI from Kerala, Viswanathan, who is in the jewellery business in Gulf countries for 16 years, will open shop at Kodambakkam.
The four- storeyed mart on an area of 16,000 sq ft will source the ornaments from Coimbatore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Calcutta and also from Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia and Italy, mart's director K K Viswanathan told a press conference in Chennai yesterday.

'We will offer only 916-hallmarked purity gold jewelleries. We will cater to the needs of all sections of people. The price range will start from Rs 150. We also have a separate section for Belgium- cut diamonds', he said.

Viswanathan said he was keen on opening a chain of jewellery shops across the country, but added that it would take some time. ' We have been working on this Chennai venture for over three years. We did a detailed study and analysis,' he pointed out.
