STUDENTS AND staff of the local Sri Dashmesh Academy
who were worried over their careers and livelihood
due to plans to close it down due to a financial crunch
have heaved a sigh of relief as SAD president
and Academy Trust chairman Parkash Singh Badal today
assured that it would continue to function.
The Trust has decided to withdraw its decision to
close down the Academy on March 31 as the Rakhra family
will give Rs 1 crore for its revival, Badal
said here today.
He said that termination notices issued to Academy
employees would also be withdrawn and they would continue
to work on their posts. Badal assured that the Academy
would be run in a better way and a new principal acquainted
with Punjabi culture would be appointed soon, adding
that orders had been issued to begin admission process
for the next academic session.
Badal, who arrived here early morning today, visited
the Academy along with MLA Surjit Singh Rakhra, his
NRI brother Darshan Singh Dhaliwal, Anandpur Sahib
SGPC member Gurinder Singh Gogi and MLA Manpreet Singh
Badal, and former PSSSB chairman Tejinder Pal Singh
Sandhu. It was learnt that SGPC member Gogi had made
serious efforts to prevent the closure of the Academy
and persuade Badal to reconsider a decision in this
regard.
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had convened
a meeting of Board of Governors of the Academy tomorrow
