NRIs celebrate
Republic Day Worldwide

NRIs, worldwide celebrate their country's 58th Republic Day with
a parade, cultural shows, a Bollywood dance-drama, patriotic songs.
- In Washington, more than 250
NRIs and several trainee officers of the Indian armed forces in
uniform joined the function that concluded the singing of the
national anthem and patriotic songs. The Indian Ambassador to
the US Ronen Sen unfurling the national flag at a colourful function
at the Indian embassy.
- In London, Asoke Mukerji, India's Acting High
Commissioner unfurled the national flag, followed by the recitation
of national anthem. Mukerji said, 'The Indian community in the
UK can take pride in the fact that their continued contribution
to the prosperity and development of both their adopted homeland
as well as their motherland has been a major factor in India's
emergence as a global power. We are especially proud that this
year's Republic Day Honours list carries the names of four eminent
persons from the United Kingdom."
- In Dubai, India's new Consul-General Venu Rajamony
hoisted the flag at the Indian High School ground. The cultural
programmes and renditions of patriotic songs by expatriate Indians
marked the celebrations. India's Ambassador to Qatar George Joseph
hoisted the tricolour at the premises of the Indian Cultural Centre.
- In Bahrain, celebrate their country's 58th
Republic Day with a parade, cultural shows, a Bollywood dance-drama,
patriotic songs and a souvenir booklet. The weeklong celebrations,
organised by the Coordination Committee of Indian Associations
(CCIA), are being held under the patronage of Indian ambassador
to Bahrain Balkrishna Shetty, reported the Gulf Daily News.
- In Abu Dhabi, Indian Ambassador to the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) Chandra Mohan Bhandari unfurled the Indian
flag at the embassy premises in the presence of a large gathering
of diplomats, VIPs and members of the Indian community.
- In Beijing, India's Ambassador Nirupama Rao
hoisted the flag. A large gathering sang the national anthem and
raised chants of 'Bharat mata ki jai'.
- In Islamabad, India's High Commissioner to
Pakistan Satyabrata Pal hoisted the flag.
