Jan 15, 2004
London's Kiss 100 has signed up Rishi Rich for a Friday night slot,
making him the first British Asian artist to be signed up by the
EMAP owned dance and Urban music radio station. Rishi Rich will
be joined by Juggy D and Jay Sean, who performed on his last single
Dance With You (Nachna tere naal), and other members of the 2 point
nine crew.
With the single reaching 12 in the charts and Rishi Rich having
produced recently for Britney Spears and Craig David among others,
2003 was the year that he broke into the mainstream with his production
skills. The show will be playing mixes and music where 'East meets
West'. There's little doubt the announcement signals the recognition
of the Urban Asian music scene within mainstream Britain.
Rishi Rich said: "This show is another leap forward for the
growing British 'Urban-Desi' street music scene. It reflects the
breadth of music playing in both Asian and mainstream clubs across
the UK, mixing up our unique sound with R&B, hip-hop, dancehall
and all manner of street genres. We'll be bringing in live instruments
and drum machines, producer battles and live guests as we continue
to experiment and break new talent. Kiss is now where East meets
West."
The dance music station has also signed up superstar DJ Mark Ronson
who most recently grabbed the limelight with his single 'Ooh wee!'.
Kiss 100 is launching its new weekend line beginning from Friday
30th January. Names such as UK Technics DMC Mix champion DJ Skully,
house legend Tom Stephan, Adam F and the king of UK Garage EZ lead
a line-up spanning R&B, Hip-Hop, House, Trance, UK Garage, Nu
Skool Breaks, Drum 'n' Bass, Electro, Reggae, Jazz, Rap and Soul.
Kiss 100 has however joined the party late, with the BBC having
