After a successful 10 days European tour, Juno Award-winning Kiran
Ahluwalia will perform live in Concert at Christ Church Cathedral,
690 Burrard Street at Georgia, Vancouver on Aug 05 at 8.0 0pm. Her
team include Nitin Mitta, tabla; Rez Abassi, guitar; Ashok Bidaye,
harmonium; Nikku Nayar, bass.
She is one of the most talented "newcomers, unique and inspiring
performer and composer. Her voice grabs attention via purity and
realism.
Kiran Ahluwalia explores the language of the heart through ghazal
and Punjabi folk songs. Born in India, raised in Canada, and now
living in New York City, Kiran Ahluwalia is a Juno Award winning
vocalist and composer who has released 4 albums since her début
in 2001. With each new album and tour, Kiran has grown into one
of Canada's most cherished and celebrated musical artists, but she
has also gained significant worldwide attention. The UK's, Folk
Roots Magazine said she has, "a voice destined to enchant more
than one generation" and US based Sing Out Magazine proclaimed
that her artistry has "a deep spirituality and tranquility
that borders on the mystic". Just last month, the UK's Songlines
Magazine chose Kiran's latest release Wanderlust, as one of the
Top Ten Albums of 2008 and she has also just been nominated for
one of the inaugural Songlines/WOMAD World Music Awards.
Kiran Ahluwalia is a unique and inspiring performer and composer.
She recently completed a 10 date European tour to rave reviews and
in March 2009 she débuted at the 200 seat Symphony Hall in
Chicago as guest vocalist with the Chicago Sinfonietta.
Late 2008 also saw her doing a star turn in the remarkable The
Price of Silence video and single, released in honour of the 60th
anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The clip
features a veritable who's who of musical luminaries including;
Stephen Marley, Natalie Merchant, Hugh Masekela, Rachid Taha, Angelique
Kidjo and Natacha Atlas.
Whether it's collaborating with such world class artists as Vijay
Iyer, or performing on stages from Paris to Prague to Mexico City.
Kiran Ahluwalia is an artist who continues to grow, inspire and
create. With plans in place to begin recording a new album this
summer, there are sure to be many more artistic highlights and musical
