and high-tech audio and video systems

THE IT VALLEY - PART IV

Dimension Music Systems was launched in December 2004 by Ashwin Patel, a non-resident Indian, to manufacture and market in India hand-held audio video systems under the newly-formed brand DMS.

Taking advantage of the schemes and incentives offered under the Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) and Software Technology Park of Indian projects, Dimension Music Systems Pvt Ltd has decided to manufacture portable and high-tech audio and video systems at the Gandhinagar-based Creative Infocity.

A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed by the company at the recently concluded Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit.

Dimension Music Systems, which will make an initial investment of Rs 10 crore in the project, has identified the UK, South Africa and Middle East as markets where these devices will be exported.

However, under the EHTP scheme, 50 per cent of all exported units can also be sold within the country.

While company officials were not available for comment, Anupam Saxena, general manager, marketing, Creative Infocity, said: “The company has chosen Infocity as its manufacturing base because of the good infrastructure available here and also the fact that besides enabling exports, 50 per cent of goods can be sold within the country.”

The company will be part of the ACi group of companies chaired by Hirji Patel, chairman and managing director of ACi (Asia) Ltd, which already has a base at Infocity.

The company will adopt both direct and indirect marketing strategies offering latest technology products at competitive prices to ensure high volume sales and significant market share.

The technology incorporated within DMS audio and video systems will mean lossless recording and reproduction of high quality sound and motion video without the use of any destructive media such as tape cassette and CD-ROM.

It will mainly focus on portable audio and video systems for the first quarter of 2005. In the second quarter, the company intends to move on to the manufacture and supply of quality and affordable systems for household, industrial and motor vehicle use.

The DMS products that will be launched include DMS 2501, a low-cost MP3 player with all basic functions, DMS 2503 - the smallest and lightest MP3 player weighing only 25 grams with all features and DMS CS100 - a small stylish MP3 player with colour screen.

Other products that will be manufactured at Infocity include DMS Mini i-Cube, a hand held juke box with 4 GB of storage space, DMS i-Cube, a small and sleek hand held portable media player with 3.5 inch touch screen and video playback capabilities.
