Odissi dancer to perform in Canada

NRI, Odissi dancer Sharon Lowen will give a performance
in the Canadian city of Mississauga July 2.
The concert, to be held at the Burnhamthorpe Library
Theater, is being organised by Cross Currents-Indo-Canadian
International Arts with the help of the Mississauga
Arts Council, reports the South Asian Observer.
Lowen, an artiste from the US, is today considered
among the leading classical dancers.
Said Meena Chopra, the woman behind the concept of
Cross Currents: "Sharon has bridged cultures
performing extensively throughout the world, including
India, the US, Canada, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Africa, Australia, England and the Middle East."
Lowen, who went to India in 1973, is one of the leading
artistes of three forms of Indian dance - Odissi,
Chhau and Manipuri. She has made India her home.
She has served as a visiting professor in various
Indian and US universities and presented several lecture-demonstrations
at universities, schools, museums and art centres.
