The head of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Commissioner Mike Duheme, has called on the Sikh community in Ottawa to come forward with any information relevant to the ongoing investigation into allegations that the Indian government is involved in violent acts on Canadian soil. Speaking in an interview with Radio-Canada, Duheme emphasized the importance of cooperation in order to disrupt what he described as a significant threat to public safety in Canada.

Duheme made public claims that Indian government agents were implicated in widespread acts of violence, including homicides, extortion, and intimidation, specifically targeting the pro-Khalistan movement and supporters in Canada. He also alleged that Indian diplomats and consular officials were linked to these acts. Duheme urged individuals with knowledge of these activities to come forward, ensuring that law enforcement could protect them.

The RCMP chief's call comes amid allegations that Indian agents are collaborating with criminal gangs, including the Bishnoi gang, to target pro-Khalistani individuals. These allegations have sparked tensions between Canada and India, with India strongly rejecting any connection between its officials and criminal activities in Canada.

India has also dismissed Canada's claim of providing evidence in the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an advocate for the Khalistan movement who was shot dead in British Columbia in 2023. Indian officials accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of making unsubstantiated allegations, while Canada has called for further investigation into the matter.
In response to the ongoing row, India expelled six Canadian diplomats and recalled its High Commissioner from Ottawa. Both nations continue to face strained diplomatic relations as the investigation unfolds.
