The overwhelming crowd that was drawn spoke for the reputation of the UFICA and FIA organizations. The cultural Vice Presidents of both organizations, Alka Patel (UFICA) and Kalika Gupta (FIA) put up an excellent show representing the cultures in each of the states of India, through the traditional dances like Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Lavni, Bharat Natyam, Garba, Rajastani Folk, Bhangra, & the popular Bollywood numbers. The MC’s of the night were Vinita Vineet (UFICA) and Rajinder Dhunna (FIA).

The function began with the ‘Unity Walk’ which was the opening highlight and the openers of the show were, Ashok Patnaik (UFICA) and Kewal Kanda (FIA). The two Chairs, Niraj Agnihotri (UFICA), focused on the Indian Culture & Heritage and how well these have influenced cultures in the world, and Aparna Hande (FIA), addressed that this year is the Centennial of the ‘Gadar Movement’ and referred to the role that Indian Immigrants played in the history of India’s Freedom.

The president of FIA, Mr. Baljinder Tahim, addressed India as representing the largest Democracy in the world. India is no more referred to, as the 3rd world country and now with the innovative ideas, we are considered the best. The United States and India relationship is also becoming cozier. He also asked all the Indians to hold their heads high by participating and contributing to the US political system, and let your voices be heard and be proud of being US Citizens and of the Indian Heritage.

The president of UFICA, Ms. Vasu Pawar, thought it was a privilege that she is the president of UFICA this year, as this year, 2013, happens to be a year of Freedom & Democracy. She was proud to address that the two countries that could truly represent Freedom & Democracy, are India and the United States of America.

In search of the American Dream, the resilience we possess, the culture we inherit, the values we bring, the education we emphasize on and the solid skills we possess, along with the spirit of being and the spirit of innovation, we play a significant role in adding to the land of Freedom and Democracy, the United States of America. India has contributed tremendously in crafting the India & the United States Partnership.

The Love of Freedom and Democracy what India stood for, and what the United States believes in, clearly represent what potentials exist in the Indian Heritage. Through Democracy & Freedom, we explore new Horizons and build a strong partnership and a peaceful future with an objective to make the difference in the world.  It is a fact that there is a significant difference in how India fought for its Freedom and Democracy. We emphasized on Non-Violence. India fought fearlessly for its Freedom and Democracy. Millions of lives were lost, families destroyed, but we still stood for what we believed in, ‘Non-Violence’.

India’s theory of Non-Violence has inspired historic figures like, Martin Luther King Jr. and the Nobel Nelson Mandela to bring freedom to the Black community in the US and South Africa and even the Middle-East. Our inspiration trends in all aspects, including Education and Technology. Through Freedom and Democracy, and Non-Violence, we can eliminate unnecessary shootings in schools, holy places of worship and avoid incidents like the recent gang-rape in New Delhi which brought world attention.

UFICA & FIA pray for the Happiness, Peace, Prosperity and Protection to everyone. The press coverage was topped by: Gary Singh & Shrinivasan of NRIpress, Parimal Rohit & Riyaz Khan of India West. We thank them tremendously for their contribution each year.
