Liberal MLA Dave Hayer's said that the acquittals send a message that Canada is open to terrorists.

B.C. Attorney General Geoff Plant doesn't agree with fellow Liberal MLA Dave Hayer's statement.

Plant says Hayer was responding from a very emotional place, and he understands that.

Hayer's father, newspaper publisher Tara Singh Hayer, who had been expected to appear as a Crown witness in the case, was shot and killed in 1998.

Tara Singh Hayer was good at making enemies. In 1986, an unsuccessful bombing attempt was made on his Indo-Chinese Times printing facility. In 1988, a gunman's attack left Mr. Hayer a paraplegic. But he remained unbowed, until the very instant he was killed by gunmen at his Surrey home
