Indian caught with drugs in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, July 23:
Malaysian customs officials arrested a 26-year-old man from India who allegedly tried to smuggle in drugs worth 1.25 million ringgit ($390,625) inside two rice pots, the official news agency Bernama reported Friday.

The man was detained at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, the main airport in the northeastern state of Kelantan.

Kelantan Customs Director Salleh Mohamed was quoted as saying that the drug, methamphetamine weighing 5.02 kg, was found when his officers searched the suspect's luggage.

This was the state customs department's third drug bust this month.

A Thai national was caught at the Thai-Kelantan border Wednesday, with some 30 kg of cannabis worth 75,000 ringgit that he hid inside the spare tyre of his car.

On July 9, a 50-year-old Indian was arrested at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport after 13.5 kg of ketamine worth 243,000 ringgit was found hidden inside picture frames.
